about the foundation
The Ballarat Foundation is Ballarat's Community Foundation.
Our primary function is to build a significant pool of capital that is wisely invested, with income used to provide charitable support for the community year in year out.
The Foundation is Ballarat and Districts leading philanthropic organisation and also provides advocacy and leadership in areas relating to Philanthropy.
Our legal structure has been set up to maximise tax benefits to our donors, without the costs normally associated with setting up of their own charitable fund.
Established in February, 2001 The Ballarat Foundation is a Company limited by Guarantee operating Honorary Trusts within its structure. It is incorporated as a Charitable Gift recipient.
The Ballarat Foundation is an independent organisation managed by a community representative and voluntary Board of Directors. Directors are selected on their ability to make a difference and many hold key professional qualifications, knowledge and experience in specific disciplines such as legal and finance.
Board members further manage committees in the areas of Funds Development, Ethics and Allocations, Investment and Finance and Marketing & Public Relations. The committees are made up of dedicated professionals in the various fields of expertise associated with each committee.
Since January, 2007, The Ballarat Foundation has employed a full time Chief Executive Officer. Recently on July 2012 The Ballarat Foundation has joined forces with United Way Ballarat and is sharing resources and CEO.
After a process of assessment and determination, earnings allocated for distribution are granted to not-for-profit organisations, to carry out charitable works and projects throughout Ballarat and surrounding communities.
We encourage other donors to use the Ballarat Foundation as a highly effective and caring organisation getting the best value for your charitable dollar.
Options include the establishment of a Sub-fund within the Foundation in the donor's name, business name or that of a loved one which can be directed to support general charitable purposes or can be tailored to a specific field of interest or even a specific charitable organisation.
We have a structure that is flexible; this means that we can tailor a method of gifting which is suitable to you or your organisation and if you wish, you can have input into various aspects of the distribution process.
