A young boy at a small school of 16 students was completely isolated by his piers as he couldn't adequately participate in play or school sporting activities. No-one wanted him on their team. His grades and his confidence and his self-esteem were rapidly disappearing. The principal took him to Target and he selected his first pair of new shoes, ones that fitted properly. He could immediately run and play sport. Such was the transformation that he is now the first selected for team sports and is the best runner in the school. His esteem and grades have lifted dramatically. The voucher covered the cost of the shoes and a pair of swim trunks which meant he no longer had to swim fighting the weight of water logged tracksuit pants.
A single mum had been working very hard to balance her income and budget to get her children equipped for school. She had used lay-by to purchase the books and uniforms over the holidays and had arranged with the school to pay off the fees over a couple of weeks into the new year. After all that good intension, she just hadn’t been able to afford shoes for the children, so they would have to wait a number of weeks until she could budget to afford them. In confiding her situation with the school, imagine the delight when she found the school was able to offer her vouchers to facilitate the immediate purchase of the school shoes. This is certainly rewarding for the hard work it takes for parents to ‘pay their way’ when on a minimal income.
A young primary school student was the only student in the class that couldn’t attend a class excursion as she didn’t have appropriate footwear. Imagine the child’s feelings! A ‘Back to School Voucher’ was used to purchase a new pair of shoes, which the child got to select, allowing the child to attend the excursion along with the rest of the class. Imagine now how that child must have felt! It turns out that this was the first pair of new shoes the child had received…..ever!
A young student was arriving at school by bike and wanting to fit in with class mates, was wearing a bike helmet. The problem was this helmet was just the foam core and straps; the hard protective casing was missing. With the parents unable to afford to buy a new helmet at that time, the school was able to assist by utilising a voucher to purchase a new helmet for the student. The result being a very happy child in a much safer situation whenever riding their bike.
