The Ballarat Foundation Celebrates National Volunteering Week

National Volunteering Week is a time to celebrate and recognise the invaluable contributions that volunteers make to our communities. At the Ballarat Foundation, we witness the incredible impact of volunteers every day.

Volunteers are at the heart and soul of the Ballarat community. Their dedication and generosity enable us to run programs that address critical community needs. Whether it's providing food relief, supporting educational initiatives, or enhancing community well-being, our volunteers make a tangible difference.

This year’s theme for National Volunteer Week was, “Something for Everyone”, and indeed there truly is a volunteer role out there to suit everyone.

The Ballarat Foundation proudly hosted the Volunteering Expo, an annual event designed to connect community members with various local organisations and volunteer opportunities. The Expo featured stall holders from numerous non-profits and community groups, each showcasing their mission and volunteer needs.

The Volunteer Expo was a huge success, with over 200 attendees making their way to St Patrick’s Cathedral Hall to see what volunteer opportunities were available to them. Attendees spoke to organisations such as Lifeline, Rotary, Women and Mentoring, the SES, St Vincent’s de Paul, Foodbank Victoria, Sovereign Hill, The Smith Family, Ballarat Toy Library, Make a Wish Ballarat and many more.

The other major event held by the Ballarat Foundation during NVW, is the morning tea to honour and appreciate the volunteers. The morning tea brought together volunteers from various programs and community groups, providing an opportunity for them to connect, share their experiences, and celebrate their contributions. The morning tea was a testament to the spirit of volunteerism and the invaluable role our volunteers play in strengthening the Ballarat community.

"Ballarat has a long and proud history of volunteerism. From the early days of the gold rush to the present day, volunteers have been the lifeblood of our city. It's in the sense of belonging that permeates every corner of our city, thanks to the countless hours of service given by people like you. Just take a walk through our streets, and you'll see the impact of volunteering everywhere you look," Andrew Eales, Ballarat Foundation CEO.

The Ballarat Foundation would like to express deepest gratitude to volunteers who give so generously of your time, talents, and passion. Your dedication and selflessness are the foundation upon which our community stands, and for that, we are forever grateful – THANK YOU!
