More Than 500 Attend Ballarat Volunteer Expo

May 21, 2026

More than 500 people came through the doors of St Patrick’s Cathedral Hall yesterday for the Ballarat Volunteer Expo, connecting with local organisations and discovering new ways to get involved in the community.

Organised annually by the Ballarat Foundation as part of National Volunteer Week, the Expo brought together more than 40 organisations offering a wide range of volunteer opportunities across Ballarat and surrounding communities.

The event created a strong sense of energy and connection throughout the day, with organisations reporting high engagement, meaningful conversations and strong interest from people wanting to volunteer.

Some organisations received more than 50 enquiries about volunteering opportunities, while others said the Expo continues to be one of their most valuable recruitment opportunities each year.

It was also encouraging to see people of all ages attending, from students and young adults through to retirees looking to give back, connect with others or try something new.

Volunteering Ballarat plays an important role in helping connect people with opportunities that match their interests, skills and availability, supporting both volunteers and the organisations that rely on them.

Research continues to show volunteering strengthens community connection, reduces social isolation and improves wellbeing for both volunteers and the wider community.

Feedback from organisations throughout the day reflected the positive impact of the event:

“Always fantastic, a great day.”

“Great networking with other organisations.”

“Great interactions with people asking questions about volunteering opportunities.”

“Every year we recruit at least one volunteer from the Expo.”

The Ballarat Foundation thanked the many volunteers and organisations who continue to strengthen the community through their contribution and involvement.
