Inclusive Access for Every Visitor

At the Ballarat Foundation we believe every person should feel welcome and supported when they visit Hugh Williamson House. Our building has been designed with accessibility in mind, featuring inclusive facilities and easy connections to public transport and parking. We are committed to ensuring that your experience is comfortable, safe and barrier free.

Building Accessibility Features 

Entrances: Automatic glass doors with sensors to enter the building.  Wheelchair accessible. Accessible reception area. 

Doors and corridors: wheelchair accessible, with wide corridors and doorways to accommodate mobility aids.  

Bathrooms: Accessible bathrooms located on ground floor and first floor with backrests, rails and wheelchair friendly showers. 

Floors: Flat level surfaces, with low pile carpet tiles and commercial non-slip vinyl in wet areas. Colour contracts between walls and floors for vision impaired people. 

Lift: Commercial accessible left between all levels. 

Charging port: electrical ports to charge mobility devices. 

Service animals: Are welcomed. 


Accessing the Building via Public Transport 

Train: The Ballarat Railway Station, located on Lydiard Street North, is approximately a 5-minute walk from our building. The station is fully accessible, featuring lifts, ramps, and tactile ground surface indicators (TGSIs) for safe navigation.  

Bus: The Ballarat Bus Interchange is adjacent to the railway station, offering various routes with accessible, low-floor buses equipped with ramps. For detailed timetables and route information, please visit CDC Victoria

Connection Assistance: Travellers Aid Australia provides free connection assistance at Ballarat Station, including wheelchair support and personal guidance from transport services to the station platforms. Please see Travellers Aid for more detailed information. 


Accessible Parking 

Designated accessible parking bays are available on Lydiard Street South, with one accessible parking spot 400m to the south of the building. For more information on obtaining or renewing a permit, please visit the City of Ballarat's Accessible Parking Permits page. 


Changing Place 

The nearest changing place facility (with ramp access height adjustable adult sized change table, ceiling hoist, and a peninsula toilet is located at the Ballarat Library, 178 Doveton Street North. The location is located on the Doveton Street entrance, next to the main public toilet. Speak to the library staff for MLAK key access.
