matthew George Young Stockman Award applications

Matthew George Young Stockman Award

The Matthew George Young Stockman Award honours the legacy of Matthew George, a passionate young cattleman whose dream was to travel overseas, broaden his knowledge of the beef industry and bring that learning back to Australia to strengthen local herds and communities.

Each year, the award gives a young person with a strong interest in the beef industry the opportunity to follow that dream. The successful applicant will undertake an overseas study tour, connect with global leaders and return with fresh insights to share with Australian producers.

Supporting the Professional Development of Young Stockmen

The award provides funding to enable the recipient to undertake an overseas study tour focused on improving Australian beef breeding practices. The tour allows the recipient to learn from international leaders in cattle breeding and bring new knowledge and ideas back to the Australian industry.

The award is open to Australian citizens aged between 18 and 25 who are actively involved in cattle breeding or the beef cattle industry and who demonstrate commitment to their industry and community.

The funding may be used to contribute toward travel related expenses associated with the study tour, including:

• Airfares
• Accommodation and meals connected to the tour
• Land travel costs
• Passport and visa costs
• Travel insurance

The award amount is $5,000.

The recipient is expected to plan their own study tour and share their experiences and learnings through a blog or similar format on their return.
