Future Shapers Program

To grow and develop as a region, we need strong leaders who are able to unpack the complex issues we face and work together to create community action.

In 2005 Committee for Ballarat established it’s Community Leadership program, now known as Future Shapers (formerly Leadership Ballarat & Western Region LBWR). Future Shapers supports Committee for Ballarat's objective of building a sustainable, connected and responsive community by developing community capacity.

Every year, up to 20 emerging leaders from across the Ballarat region participate in the program, drawn from all sectors of our community. It focuses on supporting people to transform their current way of making sense of the world so that they can adopt a broader perspective and increase their leadership capability.

While the program provides opportunities for skill development in areas such as: negotiation, collaboration, listening and considering others’ perspectives; it is more than just mastering leadership tools and technique. Through experiential learning, participants grapple with big issues, topics and themes at a local, state, national and international level.

Our program is largely designed around Community and Collective Leadership principles. Our aim is to develop an infrastructure of place-based leaders prepared to contribute in a meaningful and purposeful way to their workplace and community.

We work on Wadawurrung land

The Ballarat Foundation acknowledges the Wadawurrung people, the traditional owners of the lands and waterways in our region. We recognise their diversity, resilience, and the ongoing place that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people hold in our communities. We pay our respects to the Elders, both past and present, and commit to working together in the spirit of mutual understanding, respect and reconciliation.

The Ballarat Foundation is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive community where everyone is welcomed, respected and empowered to thrive.
