The evening recognised the achievements and impact of this year’s honourees: Wendy Sturgess, Rebecca Jakobi, Jill Oliver, Sherley Hart, Cathy Oddie and Larelle Kuczer.
Each woman has made a meaningful contribution to the Ballarat community through leadership, advocacy, volunteering and professional work that supports others and strengthens our region.
Wendy Sturgess has dedicated her career to advocating for vulnerable and marginalised people through leadership in the community services sector and a lifelong commitment to social justice.
Rebecca Jakobi, a proud Djab Wurrung woman, shares First Nations culture through weaving, dance, art and cultural education, creating opportunities for connection, learning and pride in community.
Jill Oliver has made an extraordinary contribution to Ballarat through decades of community leadership and volunteer service supporting local organisations and initiatives.
Sherley Hart has been a passionate advocate for multicultural communities, working to strengthen inclusion and support people from diverse cultural backgrounds to thrive in Ballarat.
Cathy Oddie has provided leadership in local government and community organisations, championing social equity, community wellbeing and strong civic leadership.
Larelle Kuczer has made a lasting impact through her leadership and advocacy supporting women and families, particularly in addressing family violence and promoting gender equality.
During the event, the honourees shared reflections on their journeys, the values that guide their work and the experiences that have shaped their commitment to community. Their stories were both inspiring and powerful reminders of the role individuals play in building stronger, more inclusive communities.
It was wonderful to see so many family members, friends and supporters in the room, alongside donors to the Ballarat Women’s Fund, all gathered to celebrate and recognise the contribution of these remarkable women.
A highlight of the evening was the raffle organised by the Zonta Club of Ballarat, with proceeds generously supporting the Ballarat Women’s Fund. The Fund brings women together to support initiatives that advance gender equality, prevent family violence and create opportunities for women and girls in our community.
The Great Women of Ballarat initiative recognises women whose work has created lasting impact in our community. Over the years it has become an important opportunity to acknowledge leadership, celebrate achievements and inspire future generations.
The Ballarat Foundation thanks everyone who attended the evening and joined us in recognising these remarkable women.
We extend our sincere congratulations to the 2026 Great Women of Ballarat honourees and thank them for their continued contribution to our community.

We recognise their diversity, resilience, and the ongoing place that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people hold in our communities. We pay our respects to the Elders, both past and present, and commit to working together in the spirit of mutual understanding, respect and reconciliation.
