Held at St Patrick’s Cathedral Hall, the morning brought together volunteers from across Ballarat, including those from organisations such as Sovereign Hill, the SES, TAC L2P Driver Mentor Program and many others who contribute quietly but consistently behind the scenes.
It was a moment to pause and recognise the people who help make Ballarat a place where others feel supported, connected and included.
Ballarat Foundation Board Director Katrina Baraquiel spoke about her own experience of finding connection in a new community.
Eight years ago, her days were spent moving between work and home, with little time for connection. Over time, that question shifted from “Why am I here?” to “Why do I stay?”
The answer, she shared, has always been people.
Volunteers who give their time, patience and care, helping others feel safe, included and like they truly belong.
She reflected on the impact of programs like L2P, where since 2018, 478 young people have gained their driver’s licence. An outcome that extends far beyond the individual, creating opportunities for families, employment and future pathways.
Guest speaker Jack also shared his personal journey of volunteering, describing how a simple act of giving time can grow into something much bigger.
Starting with teaching Tai Chi by Lake Wendouree, what began as a quiet, individual practice gradually brought people together. Over time, it became a space where people of all ages and backgrounds could connect, learn and feel part of something.
His story was a reminder that volunteering is not only about what you give, but also what you receive in return. A sense of purpose, improved wellbeing and a deeper connection to community.
Across Ballarat, volunteers continue to play an essential role in strengthening community life. Whether supporting programs, events or individuals, their contribution creates a ripple effect that extends far beyond a single moment.
The Ballarat Foundation extends its thanks to every volunteer who continues to give their time and energy to support others.
Your contribution helps build a stronger, more connected community for everyone.
